Yes, large-scale article marketing has a negative impact on Google rankings.
In 2013 Google updated the Link Schemes section of their Quality Guidelines to include large-scale article marketing as a link scheme. This means that links from article directories are ignored in the link graph and you can even get a penalty if you’re overdoing it.

Article marketing is such an outdated tactic. Don’t do it.
